Why and how did you decide to start a food business?

I started a food business because of my love for food and cooking. When I was younger, I attended cooking school and found a passion for cooking. It wasn’t until I met my late wife and together we created Love’s Custard Pies.

How long have you been in business?

Love’s Custard Pies started in 2008.

How has owning a business changed now from when you first got started?

Owning a business now is more profitable because of social and networking platforms such as food business classes and the widespread vendors [and] markets.

Can you please tell us about

your

signature items?

One of our signature dishes is our chess pie, which is a southern custard and it also  comes in different flavors. Our key lime pie is another one of our signature pies. In 2024 we introduced an assortment of fried hand pies.

How has opening a location in the Metro Accelerator impacted your growth as a business?

Opening a business through [the] Eastern Market Incubator kitchen has helped our business grow. We have been on national and local TV - starting with our local TV news to Andrew Zimmern with Bizarre Foods which stills airs on Food Network.
